Roosmarijn Schoonewelle and Josine Timmer have been working together as Timmer & Schoonewelle since the summer of 2019. In their own practices Schoonewelle and Timmer mainly work on paper, employing gouache, ink, oil pastel, pencil and watercolor. Over the years, they have individually collected a large amount of sketches, cut-out pieces, little tests, painted fragments and "failed" drawings. All unfinished works to use again later. With these collected pieces, Timmer and Schoonewelle now jointly have made collages in very different formats, from a series of small collages in A5 format to wall-filling assemblies on location. Repetition, rhythm, color and improvisation play an important role in the creation of their new works. They observe in their daily lives that all things tend to decay into chaos and one has to put energy into it, in order to create a new state of balance. The individual worlds of Timmer and Schoonewelle meet in their collaborative collages. In their own work, they both refer to everyday life in which everything is constantly in motion, growth and decomposition. When they join their forces cut-out pieces of drawings come together, form new works, old things are taken apart again to create something new. Their working method is one of constant change. The collages seem like a snapshot of this process.
